What I’ve been up to…
Fall is normally my favorite time of the year, with the milder weather and leaves changing colors. Well we have been having below normal temperatures and its been COLD lately. Last night, it got down in the 20′s!!! With us not having normal rain fall through the last part of the summer, are trees changed from green to brown pretty quickly this year. So being outside and enjoying the season has been nil to none.
So with not being outside to work on any furniture projects, I have been sewing!! Here is what I have done so far….
I’m not following a pattern. I searched for a pattern for a few days and just never found one that really caught my eye. The fabrics I’m using are the fabrics my Hubby had me pick out for an anniversary gift. It is the same fabric for a BOM that Jill is doing. I wish I would have seen the BOM block patterns sooner, I would have ordered them. I love how Jill’s completed blocks have turned out. Once I’m done with this quilt top I still may order the BOM if it is still available.
I’m curious, for those of you out there who have a cut and press board, does anyone else have one that looks like this?……
It was more or less brand new before I started using it to press my seams open for the quilt pictured above. My iron is clean, the fabric is clean, but after pressing off and on for the first few days, well you can see how it looks now. Has anyone else had this problem?
Also, here are some pictures from the Halloween party we went to a few weeks ago, sorry for taking so long to post them. We did not dress up.
Randy & Karen.
Jailbird’s… and a Farmer(?)
Randy & Jason..
A pumpkin…
Jimmy (Host) & Friends..
I have more pictures, but the Frankenstein decoration that was on the table I was sitting at… well someone (Randy) made Frankenstein hands so that he was flipping everyone off, and I need to edit that out of some of the pictures. I got a good picture of all the kids and of course, Frankenstein just had to show up in the picture! But I’ll have to do that later when I reinstall my editing program.
I’m still here… somewhere
First off, Let me tell you since I took myself off all my med’s, I am feeling almost 100% better! Although my body still feels sluggish/tired all the time, mentally I’m doing great. I’m slowly getting back to doing things I enjoyed doing before. I am currently drying out a pattern for my next quilt. I was going to use something off the internet, but then changed my mind because I couldn’t decided which color of fabric to use for each piece, and right now I don’t have a quilt design program, so I’m drawing the pattern, well the block, and coloring in the colors of the fabric to get an idea of what it will looking with the fabrics I’m going to be using. So that has been fun lol. No seriously, I love to color, it’s one of those childhood things that never truly falls short of being fun, interesting or even relaxing. Plus its allowing my creative juices to start flowing again.
Also we went to a friends Halloween Party over the weekend. So I have some pictures to post from that, which I will in my next post.
Have a great Monday!!
Done being a guinea pig!!
At least that is what I have felt like over the past year or so. I originally went to the Doctor because I was constant exhausted, therefor feeling really down. I hated feeling that way. I didn’t just feel “down” about myself, but about life in general, and let me tell you, it sucked!
So anyways, Ive been put on this medicine and that medicine and I”M DONE!!!! Some of the med’s have helped to a degree, but those that were helping, come to find out, I’m allergic to them. So I was put on something else. That medicine made me feel worse than I did in the beginning, so I was prescribed something else. Well after a few weeks of taking Concerta, my hair is falling out by the handful daily, and my blood pressure kept bottoming out making me feel like I was going to pass out cold, and I have NEVER had any issues with my blood pressure, except when I was pregnant.
So as of October 4th, I have stopped taking everything! and I haven’t felt this “human” in months!!!! I’m far from 100%, but feeling better and better each day. I’ve had a moment here and there were I felt kinda “odd” (for lack of a better term), and my blood pressure is still a little off, but slowly going back to normal. I go back to the Doctor October 20th for my next appointment. I just pray that I continue to feel better and that I won’t have to go back on ANY medications. Living life feeling like a walking, breathing zombie is NOT for me.
In the mean time, I have broke out some fabrics and I have been starching and ironing off and on the last few days, maybe, if I’m lucky, I might get my first “large” quilt of 2010 pieced and on the quilting frame before Christmas!
Jelly roll question….
Okay all you lovely quilter’s out there, I have a question about jelly roll’s.
Back in February, Hubby let me pick out whatever I wanted for my anniversary gift. Well I got fabric! A few jelly rolls and layer cakes. I finally decided to do something with them. So yesterday, I made my own starch, one because its cheaper, two because I could easily make more if I needed too instead of running out and having to buy another can of it, and three I wanted really heavy starch. Anyways, I was spraying and pressing the jelly roll strips, and notice that many or them are not cut “straight”. Any quilter who has bought jelly roll’s before, knows these strips are not perfect. So my question to all you quilters out there……
How do you go about using/cutting your rolls?
What do you do when you need that piece of fabric to be that 2.5 inch width of the jelly rolls?
